K9 REALITY BASED TRAINING: K9 OPERATIONAL OPTIMIZATION

FULL SPECTRUM K9-Brad Gillespie

Bradley Gillespie has been handling and training Police and Military Working Dogs for over 20 years. He has 100s of operational K9 tracking apprehensions and is currently a trainer for the second largest K9 program in Canada where he specialized in tactical integration of K9 teams and explosive detection.

Brad's combined Military and Police experience afford him a perspective that facilitates the development and employment of area of operation, principle based tactics.

Brad currently handles a single purpose Explosive Detection Dog as well as a General Service Dog. Brad is a director for the Canadian Police Canine Association and also supports training through Full Spectrum K9 International (a non-profit organization) where he emphasizes training development of the dog, the handler and the team.

K9 REALITY BASED TRAINING: K9 TEAM OPERATIONAL OPTIMIZATION TRAINING

Operational employment of a K9 team fundamentally is about decision making of the handler, conditioning of the dog and operationally relevant skill sets of the team. The key to complex and difficult situations is mastery of fundamental skills. Too often the term reality based training is used to represent training that has nothing to do with operational realities. Brad will discuss techniques to assess what the operational outcomes and objectives are and how to establish a training program that develops not only the dog, but the handler and the team.

This one day period of instruction will discuss reality based training factors for both the K9 and the handler. Considerations in developing RBT and practical applications. The application of force on force, StressVest Sytems, Shock Knife, K9 storm Camera / Communications and other leading edge RBT tools will be employed in support of K9 team training.
