Rodney Spicer Jr is currently the Director of Operations at Gold Coast K9, located in Southern California.
Gold Coast K9 provides maintenance training for over 30 law enforcement agencies and private companies throughout the West Coast. As a Trainer, his duties include; K9 selection/ evaluation, directing weekly maintenance training, dual purpose patrol/detection schools, instructing various classes ( K9 Stress Inoculation Prior to Deployments, Reality Based Detection course, Agitator Safety course, Utilizing the Electronic Dog Training Collar Course, and more).
Gold Coast K9’s day-to-day schedule consists of; managing a 20+ acre world-class K9 training facility with full-time employees, 40+ dogs, pre-training dual purpose police dogs, civilian training (K9 home protection), and more.
Gold Coast K9 has provided training to military special operations units as well as having travelled outside of the United States to provide training for Military K9 units.
Gold Coast K9 is currently the detection trainer for one of the largest theme parks in the US and has managed a covert detection program for one of the largest technology companies in the world as well as consulting private detection programs, Rodney has conducted over a thousand detection sniffs, resulting in many real world finds as a detection handler.
Rodney has watched his father train police departments as the K9 Coordinator since birth and received his first bite suit by age 12, he frequented local Shutzhund training, various protection dog sport training, and police trainings throughout his childhood.
Rodney became a Reserve Police Officer at age 20 in Southern California. By age 22, Rodney was hired by a police department (CA) where he worked patrol for 4 years as a full-time police officer and later transitioned from a full-time police officer to a reserve police officer to pursue a career in dog training with the family business. Rodney went on to work an additional 5 years as a reserve police officer for the same agency (CA).

STRESS INOCULATION PRIOR TO DEPLOYMENTS (2 DAY CLASS)
The purpose of this course is to desensitizing the PSD to stress, pressure and changing environments by inoculating the Police Service Dog to small doses of stress so that they will overcome a greater challenge.
This reality based training class will cover stress and the effects caused by stressful encounters during deployments and how inoculating the K9 to doses of stress through reality based training scenarios will increase the K9’s confidence and effectiveness in overcoming a greater challenge. Actual deployments, illustrating the importance and the benefits of stress inoculation training, will be examined and discussed.
