Simon Prins is a renowned speaker, author, innovator, animal trainer, and behaviorist. For
more than 25 years, he has skillfully trained and handled dogs in special operations missions.
He has mastered combining robotics and sensors with dogs to ensure successful outcomes. He
has trained and titled countless dogs and trainers from special units worldwide and firmly
believes that science can significantly improve our work with animals.
Simon's career began in 1989 when he worked with hunting dogs. He joined the police force
and soon became one of the youngest patrol dog handlers. In 1996, he was asked to set up a
unique K9 R&D project and to implement this into special covert operations. He designed and
wrote the training program for radio-guided camera dogs (1996) that s now used all over the
world. And as an operator, he successfully used these fantastic dogs for 25 years in countless
operations. During these years, he also began programs focused on hard surface tracking,
laser-guided attack dogs, and detection dogs for special operations.
In 2002, he selected and trained 16 dogs and handlers to start USAR, a search and rescue
operation. He also began combining dogs and electronics in 2006, equipping radio-directional
canines with sensors and carrying small robots into operations.
Simon has written numerous training protocols and books throughout his career and
developed innovative training apparatus. He strongly advocates operant conditioning
techniques, replacing traditional punishment training methods. Currently, Simon is working in
his own company ACT! , continuing to revolutionize the Police & Military K9 training world.
He is dedicated to continually improving and advancing his animal training and behaviorism
work to help other trainers and their dogs.
DETECTION PROBLEM SOLVING
It has been said that Obedience is the foundation of all other K9 work. That saying is forever true. However, there are different levels of Obedience. In today’s fast paced and dangerous environment it is not enough to have a “certification level” of obedience only. The essence of K9 tactical obedience is to have down range (off leash) control over your Dog while operating in a heightened state of drive. Having off leash control will allow the handler to safely and methodically search for dangerous suspects who have a tactically superior advantage from a position of cover and concealment. Training these skills do not happen overnight. This course will give the new or experienced handler who is having trouble with Tactical Obedience a pathway to build their skills overtime. This is not a K9/SWAT integration class. This is a classic field work class using using positive reward and operant conditioning techniques to teach your K9 to respond to your commands with alacrity even while in a heightened state of drive. This course may not be as sexy as other classes but the skills you learn may save your life.
