K9 COMMAND POST OPERATIONS
“OFFICER DOWN!”
What do you do now?
This course is designed to mentally prepare the K9 handler and Supervisors who may be responsible for managing a critical incident where the coordination of multiple K9 teams and search team personnel are required.
Sgt. Chad Bishop brings first-hand experience from metropolitan South Florida having run numerous real life large-scale K9 search operations.
There is a critical period at the onset of a large-scale search when the need to establish a command post and identify assets must be determined. Officers on the ground need to safely and effectively manage the perimeter to ensure success.
Deploying K9 teams and security teams while managing additional assets can quickly become overwhelming for anyone taking on this role.
Participating students will experience a unique approach to this scenario through classroom and practical exercises:
1. Identifying the need and establishing a K9 Command Post
2. Organize and Evaluate Containment
3. K9 Command Post management
4. Identify Personnel and their roles in the K9 Command Post and search teams
5. Practical execution of coordinated search team procedures
We have created a unique and dynamic experience for the students in this course. Students will receive classroom instruction outlining the establishment and operation of a K9 Command Post. The course will also incorporate a practical application of management of a large scale K9 search with emphasis on coordinating assets in real time.
Additionally, current LE/ Military tech will be incorporated into the practical portion of the course showcasing some of our conference sponsor’s equipment.
This course will enlist group participation assigning students to:
1. K9 teams (Command post)
2. K9 Teams (Search teams)
