Mike is a current 27-year law enforcement veteran and 18-year veteran in police service and working dog handler in the Chicago Metropolitan area.  He has handled multiple dogs specialized in patrol, narcotic-contraband detection and human remains detection.  Mike is currently a K-9 Team Lieutenant for a multi-jurisdictional mobile field force, serving the Chicagoland area.  He has more than 8,000 hours of training in law enforcement and police service dog operations.

Mike is the lead instructor for Sheepdog Guardian Consulting and maintains the most comprehensive canine legal website, www.sheepdogguardian.com, “Canine Legal Updates and Opinions” and contributed to multiple magazines, and podcasts.  He has taught and written about police service and working dog operations, industry standards, and legal updates for over 10 years and studied under Terry Fleck, Ed.D.  Mike is a committee member of the Illinois Tactical Officer’s Association K9 Committee (Subgroup: Patrol K9) and a former member of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Working Group Canine Compliance.

Mike has consulted in federal and state court related police dog deployments.  He is a certified instructor in use of force, firearms, defensive tactics, less lethal impact munitions, chemical munitions, distraction devices, and AXON TASER Energy Weapons.  Mike is a Force Science Analyst, graduating from the Force Science Institute®.

This 8-hour, 1-day lecture course will include canine legal updates on patrol dog operations and patrol dog use of force.  This course will focus on issues related to seizure of persons.  This course is recommended for patrol dog handlers, trainers, supervisors, and administrators.

This 8-hour, 1-day lecture course will include canine legal updates on narcotic-contraband detection dog operations.  This course will focus on issues related to narcotic-contraband detection dog search and seizures issues. This course is recommended for narcotic-contraband detection dog handlers, trainers, supervisors, and administrators.
