Simon Prins is a renowned speaker, author, innovator, animal trainer, and behaviorist. For more than 25 years, he has skillfully trained and handled dogs in special operations missions. He has mastered combining robotics and sensors with dogs to ensure successful outcomes. He has trained and titled countless dogs and trainers from special units worldwide and firmly believes that science can significantly improve our work with animals.
Simon's career began in 1989 when he worked with hunting dogs. He joined the police force and soon became one of the youngest patrol dog handlers. In 1996, he was asked to set up a unique K9 R&D project and to implement this into special covert operations. He designed and wrote the training program for radio-guided camera dogs (1996) that s now used all over the world. And as an operator, he successfully used these fantastic dogs for 25 years in countless operations. During these years, he also began programs focused on hard surface tracking, laser-guided attack dogs, and detection dogs for special operations.
In 2002, he selected and trained 16 dogs and handlers to start USAR, a search and rescue operation. He also began combining dogs and electronics in 2006, equipping radio-directional canines with sensors and carrying small robots into operations.
Simon has written numerous training protocols and books throughout his career and developed innovative training apparatus. He strongly advocates operant conditioning techniques, replacing traditional punishment training methods. Currently, Simon is working in his own company ACT! , continuing to revolutionize the Police & Military K9 training world. He is dedicated to continually improving and advancing his animal training and behaviorism work to help other trainers and their dogs.
DETECTION TEAM PROBLEM SOLVING
This course is designed to teach detection dog trainers how to identify and address problems in their training. The course will cover topics such as proper conditioning techniques, basic obedience commands, Clever Hans, clear communication, motivation, people coaching and problem-solving strategies. Trainers will also learn how to analyze their dog's behavior and develop a plan of action for addressing any issues they may encounter. Additionally, the course will provide guidance on how to incorporate more challenging elements into the training program to ensure successful outcomes. By the end of the course, trainers will be better equipped to handle any problems encountered in the training process.
