Mike Pennington is the C.E.O. and founder of Storm Dog Tactical, a disabled Law Enforcement owned company located in Sunbury, Ohio. Mike was a deputy with the Franklin County Ohio Sheriff's Office  He handled a K9 for patrol division and eventually as SWAT handler for 13 years. Mike retired from Law Enforcement and founded Storm Dog Tactical. By training dogs, he continues to support the mission of public service and his passion of working with dogs.  

K9 DETECTION TRAINING FOR IMPROVED FOCUS AND COMMITMENT

This class is for those handler’s wanting to increase their dogs focus and commitment while running detection exercises in the field. This course is designed specifically to improve each K9’s focus and commitment to detection while conserving energy and maximizing workability. Each handler will learn how to keep their dog out front and working thus, not relying on constant detailing or assistance from handler. Understanding how and why you should use wind to your advantage is paramount for long duration detection searches. 

Operational areas covered include tactics for route clears, large parking areas (school / stadium), search warrants, low to high odor threshold training, and walls of odor. Students will understand the “Valid Alert Puzzle” and its pieces for courtroom testimony.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

-All duty gear

-Detection Odors (Narcotic or Explosive)

-Appropriate clothing for working and weather conditions
